Course Description

Join our guides out in the field to learn how to find, filter and treat water to help you stay hydrated during an emergency – an essential survival skill for backpackers, hikers and anyone else who spends time in the outdoors.

During this hands-on session, our instructors will share their expertise for finding and collecting raw water in the wild, plus share effective techniques for treating water, including boiling, filtering with charcoal and solar disinfection. Participants will also have plenty of time to practice with the latest backpacking filtration equipment.

Our instructors will also discuss water borne illnesses and how to properly treat for them while in the field. Finding and making drinkable water is fundamental survival skill for anyone who spends time in the woods. Don't miss it.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

*Synthetic clothing dries quickly and is the best choice for outdoor pursuits. Please do not wear cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry. We also recommend you dress in multiple layers, allowing you more flexibility to comfortably respond to the weather conditions and your level of exertion.

†Please call ahead if you plan to use your own equipment as it must pass inspection by L.L.Bean staff before use. If it's deemed unsuitable, we will provide you with the necessary equipment.
