Hunting is a traditional and exciting way to enjoy the outdoors while also filling the freezer with healthy, delicious game. This Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Hunter Education Course is more than just an archery-safety class, it will provide you with a wealth of knowledge regarding the equipment, responsibilities and methods for a safe and successful hunt. You'll receive a course handbook and outdoor survival information plus additional handouts with helpful hunting tips. Our friendly instructors have accumulated many years of hunting experience and will guide you through the course, providing critical insights into best practices. This is a two-part course that includes online study and a full day, in-classroom portion.
The course involves demonstrations and lectures by instructors as well as field experiences and a final written exam. Most classes will have hands-on learning and outdoor exercises. You must complete online study prior to classroom date and pass a final exam in order to receive your certificate of completion – a required component for obtaining your archery-hunting license.
Please note: You must be a Maine resident to participate in this course.

*Synthetic clothing dries quickly and is the best choice for outdoor pursuits. Please do not wear cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry. We also recommend you dress in multiple layers, allowing you more flexibility to comfortably respond to the weather conditions and your level of exertion.
