Great Adventures Are in Store for Park City: L.L.Bean to Open Its First Store in Utah

L.L.Bean’s westernmost store will offer a distinctive, smaller format designed specifically with the Park City area and its residents in mind

Freeport, ME, April 24, 2017 – L.L.Bean is pleased to announce that it will be opening its first Utah store in Park City in the winter of 2017 or spring of 2018. It will be L.L.Bean’s westernmost store, located on the corner of Main Street and Heber Avenue in the new retail development, The Kimball on Main. L.L.Bean’s new 6,300-square-foot store is unique from its other stores in that the smaller, more intimate footprint will highlight a carefully curated assortment of L.L.Bean’s most innovative, active outdoor lifestyle gear and apparel specifically selected for residents and visitors of the Park City area and the outdoor activities that abound there and throughout Utah, such as winter sports, hiking and camping. The store will employ approximately 30 people from the area and exist as a community outdoor resource for high-quality gear and apparel, as well as technical expertise and local know-how.

“Park City is going to be a great home for us, with the near limitless opportunity for outdoor recreation, like hiking, camping, winter sports and more,” said Ken Kacere, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Retail for L.L.Bean. “The folks here share a lot of the same values as L.L.Bean – an understanding of the physical and spiritual rewards that come with participation in outdoor activities, an appreciation for our natural resources and a desire to conserve and protect them, as well as a strong sense of community involvement and benevolence.”

Since 2015, L.L.Bean has been an official supplier for the U.S. Ski Team, based in Park City, and provides the team and staff with insulated outerwear, rainwear and training wear, as well as competitive and casual headwear. L.L.Bean also sells a variety of U.S. Ski Team performance wear, adorned with the U.S. Ski Team logo.

“Our partnership with a great American company like L.L.Bean has had a very positive impact on our cross-country team the past few years,” said U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association president and CEO Tiger Shaw. “We’re proud to welcome L.L.Bean to the home of the U.S. Ski Team here in Park City.”

Like all L.L.Bean retail stores, the Park City store will be built with sustainability in mind, incorporating environmentally friendly features such as plenty of natural light, renewable building materials, energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems and more. This is part of L.L.Bean’s overall commitment to the environment, which includes millions of dollars of donations toward conservation and land stewardship organizations, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, energy conservation activities, use of biodiesel in its fleet of trucks, a comprehensive recycling program and more.

L.L.Bean made the decision to open a store in Park City due to the store’s proximity to several abundant natural resources and multiple opportunities for many outdoor activities, as well as a population base that reveres the natural world and regularly enjoys engaging in a variety of outdoor pursuits. The store will allow the people of the Park City area and beyond to experience first-hand everything that the legendary outdoor retailer offers, such as quality merchandise, a welcoming shopping environment and an ethos to always do what’s right by its customers, employees, the environment and the community.

Another interesting facet of the store will be the inclusion of the L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools, which will offer year-round demonstrations, clinics and introductory hands-on courses for a variety of outdoor activities, all designed to make it easy for individuals and families to engage in outdoor recreation for health, fitness and recreation.

"As the developer for this property, Columbus Pacific is thrilled to welcome L.L.Bean as the premier retail destination at The Kimball on Main. As a strong partner and supporter of the U.S. Ski Team, L.L.Bean is a natural fit for the community. The new store will provide seamless connectivity from upper to lower Main Street and become a new focal point in the heart of Old Town,” said Tony Tyler, Columbus Pacific’s development partner.
