    TORTURE DEVICE WEIGHTS A TONE!
I think someone at LLBean confused the term "heavy jacket" with what it should never be. Heavy jacket is about the protection NOT the actual weight! I... more

yes, i had the same experience now i am tempted to get on the scale with it on. see how much it really weighs. its way to stiff to wear it while driving. this winter has been way too warm to test it. so far, its just been hanging in the closet.

I don't understand why not. Just today, my friend was again thinking of one for her, checking with me, and then for her son, a shorter version of this long coat, but the shorter jacket version does not have a hood--very strange. LLB should take customer feedback into consideration. BTW: I've not had a chance to wear mine this year, looking for the occasion--it has snowed, but no need to wear yet, since I retired. Maybe save it for the nursing home days? :-)

Also: I've machine washed this coat 3 times in cold water, then put it in the dryer on high heat. It has retained its size and all other features (including those of Gore-Tex) except for the black colour that's now slightly faded and is more a dark grey. After the first wash, the coat "relaxes" to a softer feel and looses a bit of its shape.

Good point--a removable lining would be good improvement, an added use that is a natural extension--even if the price goes up a bit.
