  • Why We Love It

Tougher and more resilient than treated wood, the HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) used to build this lounger is made partially from recycled materials. Heavy enough to withstand winds and unaffected by wet weather and extreme temperatures, this chair will stay in place without rotting, warping, cracking, splintering or ever needing to be painted – even if you leave it outside all year-round.

I would recommend disregarding this review, which was posted from someone who clearly didn't read the product description on the website or the directions for assembling the chair. Yes, it is heavy—the product description clearly states that the chair weighs 48 pounds. It's a substantial piece of patio furniture. If you want some flimsy thing that will blow over with a strong gust of wind, then no, this is not the chair for you. If you want something that will stay where you put it (but can also be moved with a minimal amount of effort), then this is the right chair for you. Please note that I too am a petite woman and I managed to single handedly assemble the chair by myself. It can be done! Now, the chair comes 95 percent assembled right out of the box. All you need to do is open it up into the right position to install a couple of screws into the legs. Since you can technically open the chair up in a couple of different ways, L.L. Bean has helpfully included diagrams clearly showing the right (and wrong) way to open the chair. If you disregard those diagrams, then yes, you too will have a chair with a giant gap in the back of the seat and the screw holes in the legs will not align. But if you can follow the simple pictorial directions (no reading required!), you'll easily be able to complete the assembly and enjoy your new chair. They really could not have made it any easier!
