Not a Backpack but an accessory bag
    Apr 5, 2018

Very disappointed in the design of this item versus the previous version. This "rucksack" is more of an accessory bag which is already a part of the "Sportsman's" collection. For it to be a function backpack, it should include a bottle pocket, key clip, ticket pouch, and maybe an ID tag. Please bring back the original Sportsman's Backpack.

I was excited get purchase this item for my daily commute to work. However, the velcro strap that held my laptop securely in place broke way from its stitching within one month of purchase. I am a fan of LL Bean apparel, but the quality of the backpack was disappointing.

Agree totally with Belle5403 below. Had the previous design and loved it. I used it everyday back and forth to work. In about 6 months (in 2013?)had a problem with a buckle clasp coming off. Received a replacement. The only issue I had was the buckle clasp coming undone which still happens. Actually bought the new design as a backup / alternate use pack but, the design wasn't what I expected. I kept it though. Primary problem with the new design is the lack of compartments. I've kept using the old design despite the frequent buckle clasp issue (you can hear it because the metal clasp bangs against the metal buckle). Just had the clasp break altogeth. I'm trying to repair it. I hope the repair lasts. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL VERSION WITH IMPROVED CLASPS PLEASE!!!!!

I'm currently a graduate school so I though that investing in a sterdy backpack was necessary. Although this backpack is advertised for men and I am a female, I opted to buy it. It turns out that this backpack is heavy on its own and feels even heavier with my laptop, books, notebooks, waterbottle, etc. I've carried the same amount/things with other backpacks and they didn't feel as heavy as they do with this backpack. I don't know what it is, but it seriously makes my back hurt. Also, the back panel is very stiff; the shoulder straps are suppose to be "padded", but they don't really feel like it at all (I would say the padding is more design then functionality). Cons: Stiff back panel, no real "padded" straps, no watterbottle sleeve, drawsting gets stuck on everything (makes it harder to open if you constantly have to untagle it), too heavy on it's own, it's too hard to open with the drawstring and release buckles (seriously, why not a zipper!), brass buckles not the best quality.... Pros: made of excellent material, very sturdy, good quality leather, spacious,I love the compartments...and I can't think of anything else.... I am thinking about returning it, but it's a hassel (since I don't have a car) and return postage fees tend to by high at my local postal office.

We originally bought the Sportsman's Rucksack for my daughter in high school. It was a great design! Zipper top the a flap closure, large laptop pocket, outside water bottle pocket, smaller outside pockets for smaller items, very sophisticated look on the outside. It was a great product! And then they redesigned it. The current redesign eliminated the water bottle pocket and changed the top closure to a drawstring. What terrible ideas. The drawstring when fully closed flaps around and gets caught on things. Most people who carry packs like this are carrying water bottles, who eliminates the pocket on a bag aimed at students and commuters?! There is really nothing in the current product line that matches the old Rucksack. What a pity. We are most likely going to replace the pack with something from another company.

Bought the pack based on previous LL Bean experiences and was sadly disappointed. When placing the pack into overhead bins on several flights, between one and all of the snaps opened each time leading to concern about lost belongings. It is a good looking and otherwise well built pack. It has been returned and will likely be replaced with the Commuter Ballistics Day Pack.

As you would expect for LL Bean top quality. I'll be having this for many of a year. My only surprise is that it is a little larger than I expected.

I purchased this item for my daughter to go off to college in August - it came in and looks great. We are long time LL Bean back pack buyers - her last one was from when she entered middle school 6 years ago - and there is nothing wrong with it, she just wanted a little more mature pack !! We love your products and customer service - no one does it like the Bean. Expecting nothing but great things from this pack.
